Another thing I remember is that our entire backyard was covered so deep in snow that we were able to dig a whole series of snow tunnels throughout. I went in the Army in Feb 1978 and I remember that one and the ones preceding it quite well. In late 77, it took over 4 days for the massive snowplows to get our suburban street plowed, and then we had a 12' plow and wind-packed "drift" to dig through at the end of our driveway. I missed the winter of 79-80 being in Germany but got plenty of pictures and stories of it from the folks back home. Steve, I agree–winters used to be worse.
