Kids say the funniest things

My kids come up with the funniest things to say sometimes.  This morning, for example, Tristan was watching something on TV about the baby beluga whale that was recently born at the Shedd Aquarium.  He rushed upstairs to tell me, with great excitement:  “Dad!  Did you know that zoo we went to recently has a new baby bazooka?!”  That really made me laugh.

Michele just IM’d me to tell me another funny anecdote from this afternoon.  Cohen was sitting by her while Tristan and Brinley were busy arguing loudly about something.  She remarked to him, “They’re crabby!”  His reply:  “They are fighting.  I wish I was in God’s world!”

You just gotta laugh…

Fun-filled weekend

We had a lot of fun this weekend, thanks in large part to a visit by my brother, Dan. He suggested we go out to eat at a restaurant Thursday night, and he also came over and made supper Friday night while Michele and the kids were at my in-laws. We watched a bit of Les Misérables as well as Chicken Little. Saturday morning he joined us for a trip to Brookfield Zoo, buying us a family pass for the year. We had a great time, and the weather was perfect: sunny, breezy, and warm. This photo shows an underwater view of one of the dolphins in Brookfield Zoo’s Seven Seas exhibit. Lots more photos are available from the trip.

Visit to Black Pine Animal Park

Last weekend we made a trip to Albion, IN to see Black Pine Animal Park, a private zoo that takes in exotic animals who are injured or retired from performing at circuses and the like. It was well worth the trip, and here are some photos of our time there! The photos are, clockwise, a Bengal tiger, one of about four (I think) in residence there; a rhea, which is an ostrich-like bird from South America; Keegan looking at one of the signs; and a North American black bear.
